Inquiry-oriented activities in Linear Algebra

In this workshop, Joel Louwsma will demonstrate a teaching strategy that was implemented in Linear Algebra (spring 2018) and discuss how it compares with instructional approaches in other disciplines. In this course, many of the most important concepts were introduced—not through lecture—but by having students work in small groups on carefully selected tasks. Standard terminology and notation for major concepts were then introduced as they came up in the whole-class discussion that followed.

All are welcome; no mathematical background is assumed.

The session will be held in the group study room of the main floor of the Library. After you enter the building, turn right and walk to the south end of the main floor.
