4f. Human Rights in Ontario for Teacher Candidates In-Person
This presentation outlines the rights, roles and responsibilities of educators in relation to the Ontario Human Rights Code and includes case studies to encourage critical discussions and interrogations of competing rights in a pluralistic society.
Dr. Zuhra Abawi is an assistant professor of education at Niagara University Ontario. Prior to her faculty position, she was an elementary teacher and an early childhood educator. She is the author of four books, including: Activist Leadership for Inclusive Schools: Canadian Insights; Enacting Anti-Racism and Activist Pedagogies in Teacher Education: Canadian Perspectives; The Effectiveness of Educational Policy for Bias-Free Teacher Hiring: Critical Insights to Enhance Diversity in the Canadian Teacher Workforce; and Equity as Praxis in Early Childhood Education and Care.
