Navigating Difficult and Sensitive Classroom Conversations In-Person

Facilitated by Dr. Stephanie Hicks of the Program on Intergroup Relations at the University of Michigan.

This day-long workshop will be interactive, offering participants a toolkit for facilitating thoughtful discussion of sensitive and challenging topics in the classroom. It will be particularly beneficial for faculty teaching Fall semester courses related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

GOALS AND INTENTIONS

  • To provide a theoretical and experiential introduction to dialogic pedagogy

  • To build a cohort of individuals who share a common language and understanding of dialogic techniques

  • To engage participants in exercises that demonstrate the pedagogy

  • To support faculty who wish to use dialogic techniques and skills in their areas, and leave participants with a toolkit that they can use in their classrooms/course development
